- Install media center 2005 over 2004 version?

I have gotten conflicting answers on this, in fact the MS Chat area that
recommended me coming to this forum told me it is OK to just install 2005
over 2004. Now I have read in here to only install on a fresh, wiped PC. I am
confused!

You can upgrade ONLY if you received the special upgrade package from your
OEM (PC manufacturer)...
If you have the normal Windows Media Center 2005 two CD set, then it's a
clean install you want.

Thanks. That's what I needed. I am getting the CD from DELL and if it is NOT
the two CD set but marked as an upgrade CD, that will be my answer. Good

On the same subject, I have MCE 2004, and thought that if I bought a new
harddrive and installed MCE2005 on it that I should be ok. I just need to
make sure to match 2005 system requirments (dual tuner, etc.). THoughts?
