- installing updates

I have a emachine t2958 about 4years old and it crashed last week
I had to use the restore disk from the factory and Now I can install the
updates
It will download them but not install them
It lets me to insatll service pack 3I can down load it but not install it
I also have norton 2007 anti virus installed
can anyone help

Go To this site and get latest drivers for Chipset, Video, NIC, and Sound
Card

no that didnt help I still cant down load from the microsoft update page
i can scan and it will tell me I have update to down load and I can down
load them but not install them????
I was able to down load and install sp3 by typing the kb numbers and
installling it that way

this is how we fixed the problem
Register the Wups2.dll file in Windows
To register the Wups2.dll file in Windows, follow these steps:1. Stop the
Automatic Updates service. To do this, follow these steps:a. Click Start,
click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
b. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
net stop wuauserv
2. Register the Wups2.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:a. At the
command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\wups2.dll
Note For a computer that is running Windows XP Professional x64 Edition,
type the following command, and then press ENTER:
regsvr32 %windir%\syswow64\wups2.dll
b. Click OK on each verification message that you receive.
3. Start the Automatic Updates service. To do this, type the following
command at the command prompt, and then press ENTER:
net start wuauserv
4. Exit the command prompt. To do this type exit, and then press ENTER.
