- MCE 2005 doesnt connect to home network !(HP 7160n desktop)
- Posted by baz on November 20th, 2005
Hello,
I just got a new HP 7160n station with MCE 2005 preinstalled by HP
- Workgroup was created on my MCE 2005,
- My other 2 PC's running on XP Pro & XP home edition have no problems
seeing and accessing shared drives/files between each other
- However the media center PC cant be seen on the workgroup and cant access
shared drives/files on the 2 other PC's. The error message I get is:
`workgroup not available, might not have permissions to access[..],list of
servers unavailable[..]`
any clues ?
thanks,
baz

Windows Firewall
Probably not setup to allow file/printer sharing.
Or, different Workgroup name
Or

Hello,
As Tom said, make sure all machines are part of the same Workgroup and that
the file & printer sharing is allowed through the firewall. You might want
to temporarily disable the firewall to see if this is what was causing it.
Also, make sure each account has a password. XP will limit file sharing if
your accounts don't have passwords.
