MCE 2005 - Query re failed recording notification in System Tray
Posted by PaulE on May 15th, 2006

I have a new Dell with 1 GB RAM, 240 GB drive and a dual TV card. I have 2
LinkSys Media Centre Extenders (one used wireless, one used wired).

No problems with the basic setup and everything works fine since Xmas.

Except, lately ---- Now I seem to be getting a lot of the System Tray
notifications that a recording has failed - the white circle with an
exclamation mark in it.

When I go into MCE, it will show me that same icon relating to future
scheduled events that will not record due to space running out (presuming
that all other recordings are kept up to that date). BUT, when I get the
notification in the System Tray, I go into MCE and there are no indicated
problems.

I do not know if a recording that was scheduled for earlier today failed
(and I cannot even remember what was scheduled to be recorded I must admit,
by the time I see the notification).

*** Is there a way (a long file??) to find out what error MCE has
encountered? ***

(BTW, I am constantly deleting viewed files, defragging the drive, running
Disk Clean etc. to ensure that the drive is healthy and has available
space.)

Thanks for any help,

Paul

Go to Settings, TV, Recorder, History. This should show you if a program was scheduled and why it didn't record.

You can also click Start, Run and enter EVENTVWR.MSC Expand the Media Center branch and look for the yellow triangles and Warning. Double click the entry to see the details.

Thank you Doug, that is exactly the sort of record I hoped I would be able
to access.
