MCE 2005 Xbox 360 Extender PC Setup Cannot find Xbox 360 on Networ
Posted by Code Munky on January 2nd, 2006

I have my Xbox 360 connected to my Windows Media Center 2005 (Rollup 2) PC
over a Linkysys Wireless-G network. I can use Xbox Live without any
problems, and my Xbox 360 can also find my PC using Media Connect and I can
stream music and pictures through the dashboard. I cannot however get the
Xbox 360 extender software to install. I enter the 8 digit code, then get
the message "An Xbox 360 cannot be found on the network". I have tried just
about everything I can think of to sole this. I know my firewall isn't
causing the problem as I've tried it with no firewalls running at all and get
the same problem. I have attached my DvcConn.log file as I think someone may
be able to spot the problem. It looks to me like it is failing whilsts
trying to look for 'unaffiliated bobsleds'. But I have no idea what that
means!

Someone please help me!!!

Hi, I had a similar problem just before Christmas that was driving me mad.
First of all you need to attach the 360 directly to the PC to eliminate a
possible router problem. I have tried 3 routers and found only one to work.
Give this a try and then post back. (remember you need a crossover cable).

Not sure if this will help.

I was not running the Windows firewall and believed that my firewall was
'open' when I installed the xbox 360 extender pc ... I received the same
error message.

In the end, I turned on the Windows firewall, which seemed to allow the
setup to turn it off and wonderfully everything has worked well after that ...

Also - I connect via ethernet to the xbox (dlink router).

I've tried:

Direct connection between PC and Xbox 360
Wired Connection to Router
Wireless Connection to Router

All work with Media Connect, but the Extender Setup program refuses to find
Xbox 360. I have ruled out the firewall as I have tried the Windows
firewall, F-Secure firewall, no Firewall at all!

I am convinced the answer lies withing the DvcConn.log file.

It appears that a firewall is blocking some of the MCX traffic. Please see
my response to the other fork in this thread.
