I run an HP Media Center Extender on a wired LAN to my HP854n running
MC2005. I still have a difficult time getting the extender to start
correctly. When I start the extender, I get to the menu screen, but I can
not navigate either with the remote or the controls on the front of the
device. The cursor position is frozen. To remedy this, I shut down the
extender and re-start. I can usually do this with a "soft start" (using the
off button on the remote), but sometimes, I need to power-down the extender,
get to the frozen menu, shut it down, and re-start. If I leave the extender
running for long periods (over four hours or so), it also freezes. On some
occasions, I can only get the system to respond when I do a hard boot on my
computer followed by a hard boot on the extender.
I have loaded the first extender patch - that fixed some other issues, but
this get really annoying!
Anyone else having these issues with the extender?
Is this
I have a similar problem, I think. When you try navigating with the remote,
does your extender's red light acknowledge that it has received the signal,
but nothing happens? If so, it sounds like my issue.
I'm able to work around it, every time, just by waiting a bit after the menu
screen comes up before trying to navigate. I wait about 10 seconds. Since I
discovered this my MCX has not locked up for at least a month.
I think it has something to do with making sure the MCE has enough time to
fully initialize the user for the MCX, but I have no solid evidence of that.
I hope this helps.
