MCE recording in B&W
Posted by karistamps on January 19th, 2006

A week ago Sunday (Jan. 8) my recorder started recording all of my programmed
TV shows in black & white. Live TV shows in color and if I pull up Live TV
and hit record it records in color and all of the other channels (besides the
"live" one recording) go black and white. Anyone else had this problem or
know how to solve it? I went into recorder settings but don't see anything
about color vs. black & white. I love my recorder but can't stand having to
watch things in b&w!!!

Check your PAL versus NTSC settings on your cards and make sure they are set
correctly.

How do I check those settings? On what cards? I feel dumb asking but I'm
new to all of this. Things have worked fine since October until this and I
don't remember changing any settings.

To check your format settings, right click your mouse on your screen. Then
go to Properties, Settings, Advanced. This should bring up your video card
settings screen. I'm using the ATI Catalyst software for my X300 card. In my
case, I go to the Displays tab and click on TV. Then I go to the Format tab
and make sure my setting is NTSCM for the US.

However, since you are able to get color TV when viewing live TV, this may
not be the problem. What video card are you using? What tuner cards are you
using?

You might also try restoring your computer to a point prior to when you
started having problems and see if that works.
