I have had an impossible time with the latest update rollups, both the first
one and the one labeled "2" for Media Center.
I am running a relatively new, (less than 6 months old) Sony machine,
vgc-rb44g with a 3.2-GHz Pentium 4 and an ATI x300 video card, and a gig of
ram.
I have updated all of my video drivers, and I use the ATI Catalyst software
to run the resolution on the Samsung Plasma to 1360 x 768.
I use a standard DirecTV receiver for my TV signal.
Installing both update rollups, I have received a Video error where the TV
picture should be, telling me that drivers needed to run my tv tuner are
missing or corrupt, and If I push the issue I get a code 3 error. System
Restore works to get me back to square one but I am still without all of
those features that the rollups promised, most notably the non linear zoom
for widescreen tv's.
I have talked to Sony, chat support, not good, putting off the inevitable
telephone call.
I have talked to Microsoft who referred me back to Sony.
To further complicate matters, I am really interested in getting DirecTV HD
receiver...but that's another set of questions.

Try running MCERepair 0.2. It might help *if* you have .net Framework 1.1
and .net Framework 1.1 SP1 properly installed.

How do I determine if the .net framework 1.1 is properly installed? Haven't
I been windows updated to .net framework 2?

..net framework 2.0 and .net framework 1.1 are two totally different things.
MCE requires version 1.1

I have reinstalled the .net sp1, the installer said it was already on my
system.
This may seem like a strange question, but should I reinstall the rollups to
get the Component Registration Failures and then do the MCRepair 0.2?
or
should I run MCERepair and then install the rollups?
