MCE05&Direct TV setup
Posted by huntedbyafreak on October 30th, 2005

I bought the new Sony Vaio RA-840G monster a few months ago and am
wondering how I could utilize the MCE'05 components.

This is my current setup:

-Direct TV with a 3LNB and 2 Direct Tivo's
-the afore mentioned PC with a dual tuner card

What I would like to do is get a signal to the MCE'05 PC and use an
extender to get content to a TV in our BR

I chanced a peek at our satellite on the roof and noticed 4 of the
available 4 line out connectors are being used by the Tivo's. I
really did not want to poke any more holes in the walls , so I am
wondering if I could split one of the existing runs. What other setup
options are available given my described situation?

Thanks

well with sattelite you will not be taking feeds from the dish.. you will be
either using RCA (composite) or SVIDEO from your Sat Tuner (Tivo) directly
to the inputs on your tuner card on the pc.. then when setting up tv in MCE
wizard you will choose the appropriate input (Composite or SVIDO) and
confirm you see picture. Then proceed through wizard to setup guide etc.

You will need to use an IR blaster to change the channels on the Tivo via
the PC.. If you are using two tivos at the same room you could plug both
into the tuner on pc via the above method.
