Are you confusing Windows Media Player with Windows XP Media Center Edition?

What needs to be established before your question is answered is, do you
have Windows XP (pro or home) or Windows XP Media Center Edition? Those are
three different "flavors" of Windows, each with their own little quirks and
solutions to your problem.

If you are asking questions about Media Player, you might want to consider
checking with a Media Player forum, as this one is for Media Center Edition.
