Media Center Extender on Xbox 360 not sync'ing with PC Media Cente
Posted by Mike on January 9th, 2006

I have been able to successfully install MCE on my desktop PC.

However, what I see through the Media Center Extender on the 360 and what I
see on Media Center on my PC are two different things. The best example is a
playlist that I created on my PC...I see it on my PC through MC but not on my
360 through MCE! That is the weird thing.

I can't figure out what is going on.

I am using Norton but wouldn't think that would be causing my problems.

Also, I try to create playlist in Media Player because it is a better
interface. Same thing happens there...everything shows up in Media Center on
my PC but not through the Media Center Extender on my Xbox 360!!!

Please help!

It takes awhile for the extender to get updates to it's database from the PC.
Sometimes it never works by itself. This is what you do...

Go here:
C:\Documents and Settings\LOCALUSERNAME\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Media Player\

Copy the files and paste them to:

C:\Documents and Settings\MCX*A_NUMBER*\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Media Player

What you are doing is copying the media database of the local profile on
your PC and pasting it into the extender's profile.

Hi Geo...that worked! Playlists are now sync'd. One more question
though...what do I need to do to make sure the songs themsleves or song data
is sync'd as well. For example, I have edited the Genre on many songs but
their new classification doesn't show up through the 360.

Thanks,
Mike

Same deal applies for song metadata as for playlists - if you let the MCX
sit on the My Music page, it will auto-update your music library.

Alternatively, you can force a total refresh of your music library if you'd
like (near-)instant gratification; to do this, remove and then re-add your
MCX:
- Launch the MCX Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Media
Center --> Media Center Extender Manager)
- Select your Extender, click Properties, select Remove.
- Select File --> Add a new Extender... and type in the 8-digit code
displayed on the TV your MCX is connected to

Note that you'll need to tell your MCX where to find your videos, pictures,
and music again after you do this.
