Media center tv tuner video error "file missing/currupt"
Posted by Monica on December 12th, 2005

I bought my laptop in may 2004. I have a HP pavilion Zd7000 media center
edition. 512 mb RAM, 128mb NVIDIA(R) geForce FX Go5700 video card graphics.
The tv tuner came with the computer when I bought them from HP with the
media center edition 2002.

When I first got my computer, the media center tv tuner worked perfectly.
But it has been a while since I used the tv tuner, but I plugged it back in
and now I get this message when I press "live tv"
"Video Error: Files needed to display video are missing or corrupt. Please
restart Media center and/or restart the computer. If the problem persists, go
to help for additional information."

There are some people who have had the same problem on this but I am not
clear of the "solutions" people have posted. I don't think it is my decoder
that is missing/currupted, because I bought the tv tuner with the computer
and it has worked before. But I might have deleted the files needed to
display the video?

A few weeks ago when I plugged in the tv tuner I got a message that there
was not enough memory in my computer. But that one has gone away. But I had
plenty of memory left.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

The video error can refer to either your graphics card or your tuner card
drivers having a problem.
If you can play a DVD with MCE or a previously recorded TV program then your
decoder and graphics card are fine and you probably need to reinstall the
MCE drivers for your tuner card.
The memory error referes to either RAM memory or Disk space. If a
reboot/restart eliminated it then it was becasue one program was not
realeasing memory as it should when you closed it and eventulaly there was
not Ram lefte available. This is called a memory leask and sometimes can
take weeks before you run out of memory again.

Another thing that can be the source of that error message is a video/audio
processing program, such as FFDShow, that is configured improperly.
