for some reason, I only hear audio on my media player when playing streaming
videos. In order for me to see the video, I have to watch it in media
center. Most of the time, watching it in media center does not work because
you can't download the video. Any ideas?

You need to find out what codec is needed for the video.
In most cases, ffdshow will decompress almost all mp4 variants.
