Microsoft Remote / Media Center Keyboard
Posted by JASE on November 16th, 2005

Hi,

I have just built myself a Media Center PC. Its running MSMC 2005 with
all the latest roll-up's and updates.

I intend to use the Microsoft Remote and the Microsoft Media Center
Keyboard to control the system, but I am currently unable to all of the
keys (on both the remote and the keyboard) to work. The media center
key (green key) and the cursor keys works fine on both devices, but...

1. I can get the CH+/- and VOL+/- to work on the remote.
2. I can't get the alpha numeric keys (the main keyboard) of the MC
keybaord to work. Would like to use the keyboard in the underlying
Windows XP.

I am not using the Microsoft IR receiver. I am using a built-in UNEED
VFD IR receiver (http://www.origenae.com/product_vfd.htm). The UNEED
device is suppose to be 100% compatible with the Microsoft Remote IR
receiver.

I am wondering if I need to install some extre drivers to get the
remaining keys working. What do you think?

Best regards

JASE

Did you either install Update Rollup 2 for MCE 2005, or KB888795?

If not, you'll need to install either one of those for the MCE Remote
Keyboard to work.

Both are available via Windows/Microsoft Update
Alternatively, the former is available at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

The latter is available at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

You might want to check out the support forums on the link you
mentioned...sounds like they're not as compatible as they thought they were.

Got it working. Turns out that the IR receiver needs a flash upgrade.
No everything works - I can even tun on the PC with the MS
remote/keyboard.

Thanks!
