- Missing "gaming input" menu on MCE2005
- Posted by John UK on October 13th, 2005
I recently purchased a elonex artisan media centre which is running microsoft
media centre 2005.
I would like to connect to my DVD RAM player so I can transfer my recorded
DVD to media centre, the media centre instructions tell me that I can do this
connecting using s-video and selecting "gaming input" but I cant find this
menu on media centre 2005, is this an update from microsoft?

What you have to do is run the TV setup again in Media Center, and tell it
you have a set top box. Then MC will look for input on the sVideo.

If I do that will it also still use the internal TV tuner and just add the
ability to select the S-Video input, or will the TV option default to
expecting a set top box coming in on S-Video?

Not really.
If you want to use the coax input for the tv tuner card, you'll need to run
through tv signal setup again.

When you set up TV on MCE it's an either/or thing. If you set it up for s-video
for STB or other device then it will blow away your previous settings for
internal TV tuner.

It seems that the fundamental aspect of the question was not answered. I too
am in the UK and have an Advent 2000 which in the manual says that there is a
'gaming input' menu item on the Start page and that leads to a 'gaming input'
page where the type of video input can be selected. It says you can use this
to connect a VCR. The work around described seems archaic. Surely there
should be a way of accessing this page. Also, as most people are now setting
their tuners to a digital input will this work, if as in my case I want to
play the VCR so that I can transfer tapes to the hard drive? Are Micorsoft
just being awkward or is there a sensible solution? It should not be
necessary to retune each time. They are set frequecies which the computer can
easily memorise.

Hi,
I saw your Thread and decided to join up to tell you how to fix your Artisan
Problems. I am an contracted Elonex Engineer. I install the Exentia &
Artisan for customers everyday.
If you goto www.elonex.co.uk and click on Support on the tab on the
top-right, it will open a Technical Support page.
Look on the left pane and u will see Drivers & Files. Click it and look for
Operating Systems in the drop-down list. Now look in the Main pane, and
choose TS146.EXE and TS147.EXE.
These should sort out your problem.
Best of luck.

That will be a solution specific to a particular tuner card.
