- MPEG2 Files

I have a few home movies which are in mpeg2 format (compliant for making
DVD's). I've created these using Sony Vegas 5.
When I play these in WMP10 it is in full screen (4:3) as it should be. But
when viewing in MCE 2005 they are displayed in the widescreen format. So it
looks squashed. Both WMP10 and MCE are using the same DVD decoder (Nvidia).
Everything was working fine a couple of weeks ago. The only changes I did was
a few windows updates. I also moved theses mpeg2 files off of the computer
and onto another WinXP Pro computer then back onto the MCE 2005 computer.
This problem happens on aLL mpeg2 files.
When I get home tonight I will try to use another DVD decoder.
Any other suggestions?

OK, I tried Cyberlink's decoder and now all my mpeg2 files display properly.
So I tried to uninstall Nvidia's decoder and re-install it. Did not help. I
ended up restoring my pc with an image made by Ghost to a few months ago and
now Nvidia's decoder is working properly. Luckily I keep a detailed log on
all my changes/installations on my pc's. Now after I re-install some software
that is missing due to the restore I'll see if any of them corrupted Nvidia's
files. If not then I'll chaulk it up to some wierd phenomanon ;-)
Side note: I was getting the dreaded Code 23 for the Guide, I ended up
erasing the files in the EPG folder and rerunning the Guide wizard. Did not
help. I then repeated the process but used a secondary location my Cable Co
had listed and it is working fine. Must of been corrupted on the server side.

Problem is back. The only thing I have done is install 4 programs. DVD
Architect 3.0c, Tmpgenc Xpress 3.0 (latest update), Nero 6.6.0.16 and
Dr.DivX1.06.
So I went ahead and uninstalled them. Mpeg2 is playing back fine now.
One of these programs is having a conflict with MCE. When I have time
tonight I will restore and then install one by one, reboot and try to play a
mpeg2 file.
Keep you all updated....

It turns out that DVD Architect was my problem. Very strange, there must be
some kind of conflict between it and Nvidia's decoder (at least on my
system). I tried Cyberlinks's decoder with DVD Architect installed and my
mpeg2 files displayed properly in MCE.
So, for now I have installed TmpgEnc DVD Author and all is fine.
