This is hard to explain but I have 2 Nickelback albums in my media player and
when there displayed in the library there are for songs from the first album
then it list the entire second album then it list the following ten songs of
the first album. So when i'm in mc it shows 3 albums for the band one with 4
songs; one entire album; and another with ten. One album was loaded at home
the other was downloaded.????

i don't think your problem is MCE or even XP related; the most likely cause
is different tags on the files. If some files have the album title "Greatest
Hits Volume I" and others only state "Greatest Hits", most ripping software
recognizes the difference and files the incorrectly (or differently) tagged
files as a separate album and files them as such.

Different information in any of the fields could be to blame, even something
simple like a mis-spelling or extra or missing character. This applies to all
fields, not just the basics like title, track, artist, and such. It could be
the Genre, rating, whatever.

You could visually review each files tags but I suggest using a third-party
program such as MP3 Tag which you can DL (for free) at http://www.mp3tag.de/

MP3 Tag will query the usual Internet music DBs to verify and correct all
the file tags associated with the album. You review the suggested info and
choose whether or not to over-write the tags.

You could also try Music Brainz at http://www.musicbrainz.org or any other
tag-correction site or software you prefer.

Hope this helps
