Need help adding 2nd Tuner for MCE2005
Posted by masik on November 26th, 2005

I am trying to add Hauppuage WinTV PVR USB2 as the 2nd tuner for MCE2005. I
have installed latest drivers & sw from Hauppuage site. MCE2005 does not
recognize the 2nd tuner. I have two STBs, first one connected to built in
tuner for VAIO and 2nd one connected to Hauppuage tuner. I can watch all
cable channels find with Hauppuage tuner by itself. But MCE2005 does nor
recognize it.

Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

You need to go back through the TV setup and tell it that you have two tuners. Also, note, there is no additional software for the USB2 tuner, when used with Media Center, just the drivers.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the reply. How do you tell MCE I have two tuners? In Settings, I
go through 'Set UP TV signal'. This is the step where MCE 'recognizes' that I
have two tuners. But at this step, MCE is unable to recognize the 2nd tuner.
That is my problem.

I had this working before. I purchased this few months ago, I had same
problem, Peter Near gave me a solution, but I am unable to retrieve old
posting from this news group. My PC just crashed, so I am reinstalling
everything from scratch (MCE2004 VAIO.. upgraded to MCE2005 etc...). The MCE
is unable to recognize the 2nd tuner. That is why I am asking this question.

Thanks for your help. Any tips on how to proceed?

See http://tinyurl.com/8bq6z for a Google Groups search of this newsgroup for any messages you posted, or threads you participated in.

Other than that, ensure that you're installing the Media Center drivers for the USB tuner. They are different than the drivers that ship with the non-MCE version.

Thanks Doug. I was able to search through the old post and found the site for
getting MCE compatible drivers for Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 tuner.

Everything is working well now.

Appreciate your help.

There shouldn't really be any trouble with the tuner if you are using the
latest drivers.

The latest WHQL'ed drivers are available here.
ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/wintv-...23258_whql.zip

It will remove your old drivers and then install your new drivers (if you go
through the setup program that Hauppauge includes within the above zip
file).
