- Newbie question concerning allowed video formats for MCE 2005 and xbox 360 extender.
- Posted by MCE Newbie on January 13th, 2006
What types of video files can MCE play from "my videos"? Basically I would like
to understand what types of files can I "drop" into this folder and be able to
view them from an xbox 360 extender. If allowable video format is restricted,
what converter programs are good to get various video formats converted into
something that MCE will be able to play.
Thank you very much for your time!

The MCE computer can play back anything that can be played within Windows
Media Player (as a general rule). If it doesn't play within Windows Media
Player, it won't playback within MCE.
The Xbox 360 Extender can play back the formats listed at the following page
(scroll down to the pertinent question).

What types of media stored on my Media Center PC can I access through my
Xbox 360?
If your video is not of the formats listed above, then you'll need to
re-encode them to one of the supported Xbox 360 extender formats for it to
play back on the Xbox 360
