Noise on TV signal (poor quality at full screen view)
Posted by JASE on November 13th, 2005

Hi,

I have just built a Media Center PC (2005) with an Hauppauge
WinTV-PVR-500 MCE dual tuner card.

I find that there is quite a bit of "noise" (looks like poor reception)
on the full-screen live TV view (at least on some of the channels).
Some channels are fair, but not a good as on my regular TV (using the
same cable signal).

Could it be that I have not configured the system correctly?

I am running the TV output from a nVidia 6600 PCI Express card (S-VHS
cable).

Best regards

JSE

Could it be your cable signal? You said your TV is working ok on the same
connection, with the same cable? Not that I have much experience with this
all, but you might consider looking into the strength at which the cable
signal is being pushed through your house. If you have a low enough signal,
it might be the computer is having a harder time picking it up than your
standard TV set. I know you can buy a signal enhancer for a cable line. I
know that with our set-up, with the phone signal also on the cable lines
(there's GCI logic for you), we needed to boost our signal to be able to see
the TVs. Whatever the case, make sure you investigate your connection
further. Just a thought :-)

i have the same issue with my 150mce card until i realize that i connect the
cable-tv input cable to the first port (which is for fm antenna). after i
connect to the 2nd port, everything becomes sparkling clear. i hope hauppauge
mark the ports on the card. howard

They are marked on the card itself (above each connector)
