- opening files with long file names
- Posted by kemah c washington on March 6th, 2006
In XP Home version in Word, Explorer, and Photoshop I can almost always make
jpg files names to be made of over 200 characters. Too often, though, once
these jpgs are named, they can’t be moved; in being moved or copied are
sometimes truncated; often if truncated, don’t display their image; sometimes
are extremely difficult to delete; and the folders they are in if duplicated
(not the originals) sometimes are extremely difficult to delete.

The limit, on all versions of Windows XP, is 254 characters. However, this
includes the full path in front of the file name. So, best answer is...don't
name your files so long...
