I want to know if I can use the Media Center extender functionality in an
original Xbox (not 360) to watch live TV given that my TV tuner card is the
ATI HDTV wonder. Please advice...

The Xbox Extender (not Xbox 360) will not display/playback HDTV content.
You'll need the Xbox 360 extender for that functionality
