Original Xbox as MCE extender
Posted by Newbie on May 11th, 2006

Hi,

I'd like to know for those of you that have the original XBox and use it as
extender, how do you like it? So far, I have XBox 360 and a Linksys MCE
extender. Xbox 360 has built-in support for MCE so it's working great.
Linksys extender is working well but too much compared to the original xbox
with extender kit.

I could probably get an used xbox + extender for around $150 Canadian.
Least expensive Linksys extender is close to $300, Xbox is $399 for a core
system.

Thanks for your opinion.

The original XBox extender works about as well as the Linksys extender. The only difference is the noise factor. The XBox is noisy.

I have one and it has worked great for me. Currently not working too well but
looks like its a firewall problem - unrelated to the xbox itself. Todd Bowra
and Reginald Blue on these forums have been very helpful in resolving the
issue and looks like the end is in sight.

I'm sure its not as sophisticated as the 360 or dedicated solutions like the
linksys but is great value when all you need is std def tv, music and photos.

I like it. It works well for me.
