- original Xbox will no longer connect to MCE
- Posted by Camel on January 15th, 2006
I use my original Xbox as a media center extender. It worked great for over
5 months. Now when I start my Xbox it says connecting to media center it
tries to connect for about 1 minute, and then the screen just goes black!
I have not made any changes to my PC nor my Xbox .
Does anyone know what has happened and possible a quick fix?
Is there anyway to reestablish the connection?
This is a hardwired connection MCE 2005 & the Microsoft WMC Extender for Xbox.
I have checked the router and the Xbox is connected. I have had the Xbox
test its online connection and everything works good.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm having EXACTLY the same problem. I'm also hardwired and my XBOX Live
connection works fine. I've spent the last few hours troubleshooting it with
no resolve.
I would like some answers too.

I'm trying out the MS Live OneCare beta. I've been using it for a while so I
don't know what changed but after I stopped the firewall in OneCare I was
able to connect properly. Grrrr...

The Extender software is not compatible with the MS AntiSpyware product,
which is part of the OneCare Beta I believe. That seems ridiculous, because
it's been broken like that for 6+ months, but it seems fixing it isn't a
high priority.

Thanks David & Jason.
I will try uninstalling OneCare and go back to Symantec. Hopefully this will
work.
I got lots of shows backing up, I need to watch them and delete them.

that's because it's being completely rewritten and MSAS is becoming
Windows Defender. I believe that the launc of the public beta 2 of
Windows Defender will address this. I imagine this will get integrated
into One Care as well.

That was it I removed MS OneCare.
Installed Norton and without problem it works again.
One Care was allright but Symantec Is reliable.
Thank you all for your help
