- Playing video in media center
- Posted by Will on April 21st, 2006
Whenver I try to play a video or a recorded TV show i get an error saying my
video decoder has malfunctioned and I need to restart Media Center or
Windows. I have tried both but no change in the error. I don't know how to
fix this problem. It seems to have jsut randomly appeared. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like something may have happened to your mpeg2 decoder or you may
have uninstalled the software that included it and unknowning broke this
option. I would start by reinstalling the decoder software and see if that
repairs it. If you are unsure of what software this is, contact your
manufacturer. Common decoders are PowerDVD, WinDVD and Nvidia Purevideo but
there are others and your MCE manufacturer may have something custom
pre-installed for you.
