Is there a way to put an Icon on my desktop to immediately launch the TV
application without having to open media center?

Make a shortcut that with the following command

%SystemRoot%\EHOME\EHSHELL.EXE /HOMEPAGE:VideoFullscreen.XML
/PUSHSTARTPAGE:TRUE

Thank you Jason. I can't try this until next week but what is the syntax
to open the TV in its last small screen, not full screen?

It will open MCE in the state that it was in last (i.e. if it was in
Windowed mode when it was last successfully, closed, it will open in
Windowed mode)
