Radeon 9600XT 256MB and Standby Issues
Posted by Keenan on October 22nd, 2005

I have a Saphire Radeon 9600 XT 256MB video card with the latest drivers
installed (5.10) running MCE 2005 Rollup 2. I have the computer hooked to a
TV through the S-Video connection. The problem I am having has been
happening for 6-8 months and I have tried all the video drivers as they are
released without any luck. What happens is when my computer goes into
standby (S3) and then comes back out of standby and I try to watch a recorded
TV show or Live TV the computer locks up and restarts. The problem only
happens after the computer has been in S3 standby. If I put the computer
into S1(POS) standby then I do not have this problem. I would rather put it
in S3 standby because it saves electricity and in S1 standby the computer
never seems to stay in Standby mode.

If I put the computer into S3 Standby the computer will wake up and record
TV shows without any problem, but if I try and watch a recorded TV program
while the media center is recording another program after waking up from S3
standby, then the computer freezes and restarts and the recording is messed
up. The only thig that seems to work is to just leave the computer on. The
cause of this problem seems to be going into S3 standby.

When the computer comes back up after restarting there is a message saying
the ATI video card or drivers were the problem. I have tried completely
uninstalling the video drivers and reinstalling without any luck.

If anyone else has a setup like this and was or is having the same problems
let me know what I might be able to do to fix the problems. Im hoping
somebody might have the answers I am looking for.

You need to play around with the BIOS and check to see if your
motherboard can support ACPI.

Clear CMOS on the motherboard if you have to. Before you do anything
check this out....

I am not quite clear on what you mean by this. The ACPI supprt is turned on
in the BIOS. Could you please elaborate a little.

Thanks
