The error happens on both machines (completely different hardware).
"The update to media center was not successful. The computer will now be

My guess would be the Rollup 2 install failed, and it rolled itself back.
You'd have to redo the install and catch the error. The utility just checks
the Ident value in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Media Center
and allows you to change it if needed. If you have something other than a
number there, then I couldn't tell you why.
I've never needed to do the domain hack, so I can't tell you what the
consequences would be in this case.
