Rollup 2 - Ripping DVDs for 'My DVDs' feature
Posted by CuriousGeorge on October 16th, 2005

So now that rollup 2 is out and there is a registry key that will enable the
ability to see ripped DVD images from within MCE (details:
http://tinyurl.com/da5u4), can anyone give a summary/review of the various
DVD rippers out there and what the limitations are?

I'd like to rip my small collection of DVDs (30ish) and store them on a hard
drive for direct access from MCE.

I'm curious about a few things:

1) What formats can the varioues rippers rip into? And what are the pros
and cons of each format?
2) Sean mentions (in the link above) that "Note this doesn't work for
CSS-encypted movies such as those you get from your DVD rental store". Are
DVDs that I buy vs rent really different? I'm not sure I grok what he is
saying.
3) Sean also states "I haven't found a way to make WMVs show up here- I
don't think this is supported". What formats are supported?

Anyone played with this feature yet?
