- Rollup and 2 And Update to Rollup 2 equals ERROR 3
- Posted by Big_Al5 on October 14th, 2005
My MCE was working GREAT, until i installed Rollup 2, then it said files are
missing, so i tried to reconfigure from the beginning of MCE settings. Well,
I keep getting an error 3; and can't watch TV nor see my recorded files. Any
ideas? I tried to restore to yesterday and XP says it can't do it? It is an
HP m300y with ACUS mother board and tuner. And yes I reinstalled the MCE
2005 update tuner.
I am really puzzled.

Download and run the DVD Decoder Checkup utility. Make sure that your installed DVD decoder is MCE compatible and set as the default/preferred decoder.

I have the Intervideo 5.0.11.776 as default/preferred and it appears
compatable!

If you have a NVIDIA graphics cared NVIDIA has released new MCE drivers
77.79 that incorporate updates to support Rollup2 however this release does
not support older NVIDIA cards that are not on the WHQL. Also there is no
description as to why they had to release a Rollup2 update so it is unknown
when this update is required.

I have the same problem. Error 3... I have two decoders and both are

Hopefully I will find out whats up soon.

There is an additional update for Rollup 2, that affects some users.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908250
It doesn't state that it specifically addresses your particular problem though.

Still Puzzled.

If you goto your Control Panel, administrative Tools, Services
When you scroll down the list of services, do you see Media Center Receiver
Service and Media Center Scheduler Service listed? I would guess no.
I had this problem before, due to an incorrect installation of MCE2005....
only way to reliably fix it was to reinstall MCE2005 from scratch.
