Screen Flicker
Posted by Graham on December 11th, 2005

Hi,

I get white lines flickering across the screen in fullscreen mode, but can
see a picture. In window there is no flickering. I am only using the s-video
out on a nVidia GeForce4 MX 4000. I have tried various nVidia drivers but no
luck. It get so bad I have to reboot the PC. At the moment I am unable to use
media center in full screen.

What kind of diaplay (make and model if know) and what resolution are you
trying to send to it?

Hi,

am using s-video out on the nVidia to the s-video in on my TV (no VGA
attached). The generic software with my TV Tuner works ok in full screen
(FusionHDTV DVB-T Plus). This only happens with Media Center.

What release of the NVIDIA drivers are you using? The latest which are 81.85
have been reported to cause flicker with MCE and the users of this release
went back to 81.84.

Hi,

I have tried 81.84, 81.85 & 81.95 and all have the same problem. With 81.84
I have problems with screen resolution which 81.85 fixed.

81.84 Causes my screen to flicker and then go black and HD goes flat out
81.85 & 81.95 causes the screen to flicker, but then it locks up the pc

Both require a forced reboot.

Any else I can look at or try?

Thanks,

Graham

Do the specifications for your card state that it has DX9 support and does
it have 64MB of memory? Both are reaquired for MCE.

Actually the requirement is for a minimum of 128 MB memory.

That is because 128MB is required for suupport of HDTV tuners which were new
with MCE 2005. Standard Definition programs are handled quite well with
64MB which I beleive was the requirement for MCE2004.

Thanks Guys,

my video card is only 64mb and TV Card is HDTV only. By the sounds of things
I need to buy a better card with more ram.

It's disappointig that my card can handle outputting the fusion software
HDTV signal (+ power DVD) with no problem and MCE 2005 can't.

Hi,

I have a similar sounding problem, but no solution yet unfortunately.
Some xvid video in "My Video" cause the screen to flicker black, and the cpu
to peg. I'm using mx440 svid out 64MB ram, 81.98 forceware. All versions of
vid driver howver exhibit issue, I keep upgrading hoping the problem will go
away. I can't put my finger on what causes it. I can make a change to say
AGP speed, most vids will work, I'll change it back, vids broken, then make
the same change and things are still broken. Everything works perfectly
outside of media centre.
