- Stop Media Center from Automatically Starting
- Posted by BrianKE@gmail.com on February 2nd, 2006
How can I get Media Center to stop automatically starting when I
restart my machine? I seem to remember that I selected this option
during Media Center setup. However, I am now trying to resolve a video
issue that is affecting Media Center and I cannot run through the Media
Center setup.
When Media Center starts I get a grey screen. The ony way to resolve is
to Ctrl+Alt+Del and kill Media Center. Once killed I get back to the
desktop and everything works again. Therefore I need to turn off the
automatic start option from the desktop.
Thanks,
Brian

Not at home at the moment, so I don't remember the exact sequence, but it's
in the Settings menu if you poke around a bit, I think maybe General,
Startup Behaviour. Maybe someone else here has their system in front of
them.

I know you can start a new task in task mgr (ctrl-alt-delete). Type
msconfig, then go to the startup tab. Deselect the media center
program. Then you have to re-boot.

Within Media Center,
Settings, General, Startup and Window Behaviour,
Uncheck "Start Media Center when Windows starts"
