Stutter on OTA
Posted by CVass on April 4th, 2006

I am experiencing a stutter in playing OTA digital. If I record it, it seems
to play back without the stutter. Really wierd thing happened last night
where it didn't seem to record the commercials in 24. Is this a new feature?

Dell Dimension XPS400, pretty standard Pentium D 2.8

PowerColor (ATI) 550 Theater Pro tuner
HDTVWonder
ATI X600 video card
2 gig of ram
pleanty of hard space

If you are having stutter problems with LiveTV and not with Recorded TV that
it is likely that your Tuner card theat you are experiencing the stutter
with is sharing its IRQ with your graphics or audio card. and this is what
is causing the conflict.

Is there an easy fix?

First you need to check and see if the tuner is sharing its IRQ, You canuse
windows help to find out how if you do not know.
Then if you are you can try putting the tuner card in a different PCI slot
preferrably one as fare from your graphics card and sound card as possible.

The IRQ = 18 has the following devices only. This is all the same card,
isn't it?

[ATI DTV Wonder Analog AV Capture Device]
[ATI DTV Wonder Analog Audio Capture Device]
[ATI DTV Wonder Digital BDA Capture Device]

There are no other devices on that IRQ

Yes that is all the same card so that is not the cause of the problem.

Do you have RU2 and its updates installed?
Are you running the latest release of the ATI Catalyst drivers (6.4) for
your X600 card?
Does the audio also stutter?
How much memory on your X600 card?
Do you have the problem with both 720P stations (ABC and FOX) and with
10880i stations (CBS, NBC and others)?
Do you play the recordings with MCE or with Media Player?

I had the right version of the X600 driver, but did not hav the full catalyst
package installed. Having done this, I am not experiencing the problem at
the moment.
What is RU2?
The Audio was also stuttering
The X600 is 256M
The problem was on Fox and others
And the recordings played back correctly through MCE, I did not try through
Windows Media Player

Thanks for your help, hopefully it is solved
