sync to my device
Posted by Jonathan. on October 25th, 2005

I have MCE 2005 and I just got an archos av500.

It plays video in these formats
MPEG-4 SP with B-Frames with stereo sound. Near DVD quality up to 720x480 @
30 f/s (NTSC), 720x576 @ 25 f/s (PAL), AVI file format. WMV9 (including
protected files) up to 352x288 @ 30 f/s, and 800 KBit/s.

I can use windows media player 10 to sync the files so it converts it to
play on it. I actually tried the dvr-ms file and it worked.

The only issue I have is that when it comes over I can't rewind or fast
forward. I can't figure out why. It says it's a wmv file, but when I look
at type on the player it says asf. the only other difference I noticed is
that the bit rate was higher. Maybe the player can't fast forward or rewind
at that bit rate.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has dealt with this type of thing, or how
I can change conversion settings so that it could play correctly. This would
be ideal to get my mce recorded files to play on my device with minimal
effort (I'm sure I could convert things many times, but I would like to avoid
that.).

Having the same exact problem with my new AV500, except that the fast forward
and rewind did work with one of the 4 shows (recorded tv) I synced. The only
difference is that the show that did work was recorded at BEST quality and
the other 3 were recorded at GOOD quality.

Also, when I copied the 3 converted shows back to my desktop to test with
Media Player 10, the rewind and fast forward didn't work. Hmmmmm...

Any help would be appreciated!
