toolbar won't disappear when playing DVDs
Posted by MCE Newbie on January 12th, 2006

This is so strange...two computers, a Dell XPS 400 and a Dell Inspiron 6000,
purchased at the same time. Both have MCE. When playing DVDs, the toolbar
"fades" as it's supposed to on the XPS system. BUT on the laptop, the
toolbar hangs around which is very annoying when watching a movie. Anyone
have an idea about what's going on???

I don't have an answer for you, but I think I have a similar problem. I have
a couple screen captures that illustrate what I mean.
1 - When I first open MCE 2005, there is a toolbar that appears over the
graphic screen. It goes away when I use the remote to access something.
Annoying, but livable with. See: http://tinyurl.com/7k7kl

2 - More annoying, when I am watrching live TV, the toolbar/player control
appears on it's own, stays a while and later goes away on it's own. See:

I can't figure out what it is or why it's happening. Is this the same
problem as yours?

I think I'm going to repost this problem again on it's own also. Maybe we
can get some help,

Fred

Yes, that's the toolbar (top and bottom) that won't go away when watching
DVDs on my laptop. I thought maybe it had something to do with screen
resolution or the fact that my laptop has a built-in widescreen display and
my XPS is using a traditional 4:3 flat-screen monitor. I went through the
setup wizard (several times) using different settings trying to replicate the
problem on my XPS system but I couldn't. To make matters even stranger, the
toolbar fades when I first start playing a movie on the laptop but the moment
I touch the mouse, it pops back up and then never goes away again. I thought
for a time it was the wireless mouse but that wasn't the problem either.
It's completely baffling...but, nice to know I'm not the only one having
problems with that stupid toolbar!

The toolbar is supposed to come up when you move the mouse, since the
mouse's only real use is to access the toolbar (and the taskbar as
well, of course).

However, it is also supposed to go away after an interval of no mouse
or keyboard activity. So that part is a mystery to me.

I have noticed that clicking a button on the remote makes the toolbar
and taskbar go away, but IIRC it's not foolproof, by which I mean that
it doesn't always work that way. Oh, yes - I try to pick a button that
won't adversely affect what I'm doing, such as the info button, not the
channel up button :-)
