turn off 56k modem tones on external speakers?
Posted by Mr. Norrell on December 13th, 2005

hi, just got a new computer and when i activate 56k modem to get on internet
the modem tones come out of the stereo speakers flanking my monitor. I've
already gone in the control panel and turned off the modems volume so it is
no longer heard on the tiny speaker within the computer tower. Any thoughts/
guidance on the modem coming through the stereo speakers?
Thank you

Go into Settings - Network connections and find the dial up connection
you are using.
Right click on it and go to Properties
Under the name of the modem, click the Configure button
You'll see a check box labeled "enable external speaker" UNcheck it

Hi Mr. Kingtone, I followed your steps with success until I reached the last
directive
"You'll see a check box labeled "enable external speaker" UNcheck it" - at
this box there is no check box labeled "enable external speaker" . I am
using the XP media edition, does this make a difference?
