Just purcgased the dell xps 400, need a tv tuner card....which one is
recommended, i am leaning toward the ati tv elite or the nvidia nvtv or
hauppauge wintv-pvr-500 mce

If you want a dual tuner then the NVTV is probably better since you do not
need a daughter card if you plan to use 2 STBS and their S-Video
connections. For a single tuner the Elite and the Hauppauge cards both are
popular. You will also need a software decoder unless you get the NVTV card
which should come with the NVIDIA Video Decoder.

Curious never stated that is was not a dual tuner card he just stated what
you had to do to use both tuners with other than an antenna or direct cable
input.

I still need a software decoder even though I am running xp media center?

Windows XP Media Center Edition does not come with an MPEG2 decoder.
You/your computer manufacturer will need to provide one for tv
playback/viewing and dvd viewing.
