Unexpected disconnect
Posted by Charm on December 18th, 2005

I am getting an unexpected disconnect due to network congestion, oc turned
off...

The original xbox extender connects and then about 90 seconds later
disconnects. (Regular interval).
I have been on the phone with linksys and xbox and we are no closer.

We have forced Ip addresses, uninstalled and reinstalled several times.

I tested the router connection with a new router and am getting the same
problem.

One hope was that the router was faulty since it seems I need to reconnect
on an infrequest basis. This seems to be ruled out now.

I even tried the registry change from another posting and it did not work.

I am getting desparate, I have been at this for two weeks.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi.
I am still getting the same error.

I was able to "fix" the problem by going back to a system restore point.

I have the problem again but my system was not logging restore points.

Does anyine have any ieas on getting old restore points back?

Please check the Application, System, Security, and Media Center Event
Viewer logs (right click My Computer --> Manage) for any errors
corresponding to the time that you tried to connect and then post them here.

This is odd-

I did not get an error under the section you mentioned.

I checked under the "system" and found the following error.

"Remote Media Center session was logged off because system validation failed.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp."

Typically, this error message indicates that some application trashed a
catalog on your PC containing signatures needed for Extender to function
(hence the failed system validation). A second (less likely) possibility is
that an app deleted a registry entry that it shouldn't have. Could you look
under the following registry key and tell me what's listed as UPPERFILTERS?
(Start --> "regedit" <enter> --> navigate to the reg key)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CCS\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36E 967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE
10318}

Yet another possible cause if Fast User Switching is disabled (e.g. if your
PC is domain-joined), you will see the 5700 message.

To verify whether FUS is running, run services.msc (Start > Run) and look at
Fast User Switching; is its status Started?

Hello-

I hope this is what you are asking for:

Name= UpperFilters
Type= REG_MULTI_SZ
Data= blank (no words or numbers listed.

To anwser the previous question...
Nothing changes when I delete the roxio program.

Thanks for the help

Here is the info on fast user switching:

Status= started
Startup Type= manual
Log On As= Local System

That may be your problem - UpperFilters shouldn't be blank. To fix this,
paste the below into a run window and click okay.

reg add
HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS\{4D36E 967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE
10318} /v UPPERFILTERS /t REG_MULTI_SZ /d PartMgr /f

A reboot will be needed for this to take effect

Warning: although it's okay in this case, it's generally a bad idea to add
stuff to your registry based upon the recommendation of a random person on
the Internet...

You are a genius!

I have spent at least 15 hours with Microsoft (xbox, xbox live, media
center) depts, 10 hours with linksys and another 2 with roxio with no
solution.

You solved it in a few e-mails.
I am a happy man.

Can you send this to the Microsoft support people?
I almost gave up and got rid of this system set-up.

Strange that putting roxio will mess this up.
I also had issues with the MS spyware beta.

I wish MS would make compatibility better.

I know a lot of apple fans that love this system in concept but love it even
more when my system goes down because of compatibility.

Again-

Thanks!
