- Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
- Posted by Don Taylor on February 2nd, 2006
Had a few problems with update rollout 2, I have a Sony VAIO VGC-RA840G one
of the applications that come with the VAIO is VAIO Media that allows you to
stream TV, Video's, etc to other PC's on your network. It worked fine before
Rollout 2, since the update every time I try to start the media server it get
a "One or more of the servers could not be started" error. I have downloaded
and installed all the updates I can find for the Media Server in the hopes it
would fix the problem, I have even uninstalled and reinstalled VAIO Media and
still no luck, Sony says I need to contact Microsoft since their update
caused the problem (Alot of help they were) and Microsoft wants a CC number
for their help (Mabey I am wrong but I don't feel I should be charged for
this) any ideas would be appreciated.
It could have also been the .Net Framework update thats causing the problem
since I installed them both the same evening and the .Net Framework caused
all the Component registry errors.

It sounds like your attempts to install the .net bits have failed quite
miserably (and as a result, subsequent updates reliant on the .net bits also
failed.
Follow these instructions to get back up and running
1. Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the .NET Framework 1.1 (and any .NET
Framework 1.1 language packs if you have any installed) (reboot as
necessary)
2. Download the .NET Framework cleanup tool from
http://astebner.sts.winisp.net/Tools...eanup_tool.zip , run it and
choose to clean up the .NET Framework 1.1 (reboot as necessary)
3. Install Update Rollup 2 and its dependences with this file -

4. Install the post Update Rollup 2 updates from here -

and
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
5. Install the Windows Media Player 10 update so that your DRM won't be
corrupted if other apps install Windows Media components (so you can
continue to watch tv that is marked with protected content flags) -
