Upgrade on Sony VAIO
Posted by chicagoro on January 2nd, 2006

I have a Sony VAIO laptop (PCG-F370) with OEM Windows 98se. I would like to
upgrade the operating system so I can install a graphics program I need that
will only run on XP. Sony will not give me any information as to the
probable success or failure of this upgrade except to say that they will not
support it and the recovery CD's will not work.

Can this be done successfully or am I likely to mess up my computer beyond
all usefullness. I can't afford a new laptop.

I'd be interested in what is possible with this vintage machine, myself.

I expect the big issue will be getting XP drivers for all the built-in
hardware, chip set, etc.

But, if worse comes to worst, you can always boot your recovery CD(s)
and format and re-install Win98SE (assuming you've backed up your data).
