- Using remote to switch to and from standby mode?
- Posted by Dan P on February 21st, 2006
Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me why and how to fix(if possible) the
issue of the remote not functioning to return the system from standby?
I was told by my system manuf that I need to keep my finger on the windows
green button and it will power on the system, but this doesn't work?
I have self-powered USB ports, but in device manager, the 'allow this device
to return the computer from stanby' is shaded and not selectable?
Many thanks,
Dan

This from Dr Stu from xpmce.com.
You can use the Microsoft MCE Remote control to put your computer into
standby mode, but many people have found that the USB receiver won't actually
wake the PC back up again when you press the 'PC' button
IN BIOS
If you have any suspend setting, set them to s3 only (or s1 & s3)
Turn on ACPI 2.0 support (and any other advance power support options)
Turn off Wake on LAN, ps2 keyboard... basically everything
Add Reg Setting
Back in Windows, open up RegEdit (Start > Run > then type regedit)
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Then go through to SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services
Right-click and select new Key. Rename it to USB
Add a new DWORD value to this key, called USBBIOSx
Now restart your PC
In device manager:
under Keyboards
Properties on Microsoft eHome...
Power management TAB
Make sure 'Allow this device to bring..." is checked
Properties on your keyboard
Power management TAB (if exists)
Change setting based on your preference
under Mice and other pointing devices
Properties on your mouse
Power management TAB (if exists)
Change setting based on your preference.

Dan,
The way I use my remote(s) (all 4 MCE machines) to put it in & out of
Standby mode.
There is a button on the remote that looks like an "C" on its side with a
line going thru it.
I just press it once to go into Standby mode. Just press it again will bring
it out of standy mode...
Thats works for my 2 HP & 2 Dell systems.
I hope that is what you meant in your request.
