- video card or driver not compatible with media center error messag
- Posted by p on January 10th, 2006
Hi,
I've got a packard bell pc with media center and i've got a wintv pro 150
graphics card installed in the pc whic is said to be media center compatible.
The media center was working fine about 2 months ago but now I get the error
message: " Your video card or drivers are not compatible with media center"
and no tv is playing.
I am able to play any other video file out side of the media center, so I
don't think that it's a graphics card problem. Can anyone suggest what I
should do or can help ...know of how I can rectify this.
Should I reinstall windows? Get another graphics card? Please can anyone
advse me?

Hi
Maybe you should try with updating the driver for the card

Are you sure the WinTV Pro isn't the tuner card and not the graphics card?

If you installed drivers updates using WinUpdate this may be the cause of
your problem.
When you got the new drivers from the Hauppauge Website did you be sure and
get the MCE drivers and not the regular Windows drivers.
Can you play a DVD with MCE?

The 150 is only a TV card NOT both TV and video card. what video card do you
have?

Nope, that's just a tuner. You still need a graphics card (follow the cable
back from your monitor to find the graphics card). If it's built into the
motherboard, that's a good clue that it may not be compatible. Or, sometimes
motherboard graphics _are_ compatible but only if 64Mb of RAM is assigned to
it in the BIOS...it could be that yours is compatible but something tweaked
the BIOS and reduced the memory the graphics can use.
Take a look in the Display properties or Device Manager and see if it can
identify your graphics.

Oh ... I thought it was both.... what I had done was replace the NVidia
GeForce FX 5200LE card that came with the pc with the wintv pro 150 one. So
is this why I am receiving no tv picture?

P. Put the video card 5200 back in, keep the 150 in also.
