Video Card and TV TUNER Media Center 2005..error
Posted by Stephen Baker on December 11th, 2005

installed Media Center 2005 with a GeForce4 MX 420 4X 64MB Video Card and
and Haugeppauge PVR-150 MCE / 512MB/ 1.3GHZ/ 250GB SATA

Problem: Video Card or Drivers are not compatible with Media Center

Switched Video Card to ATI 9200SE 128MB 8X...
The Found New Hardware wizard finds the card and installs Digitally SIGNED
drivers for the card.
After reboot, the ATi Control Panel says there is no ATI Drivers on the
system....Click OK to continue

Now I can't read anything on the screen after 3 minutes, missing or
incomplete characters...

I am thinking to reinstall XP Pro and see if I can do an UPGRADE to Media
Center 2005.
Oops.. tried and No Go!! XP responded: The upgrade option is NOT available
for this version of XP.
This was XP Pro version 2 SP2....

Problem... The first file on the Install Disk (Driver.cab) cannot load. I
believe this is the major problem with the video card issue. Also, because
of the Video Driver issue, of course, I cannot use my TV Tuner or play a DVD
as I believe the Driver.cab which holds the drivers for the encoder and the
video is not available to the system when it installs.

I tried to use my XP Pro disk to allow the Driver.cab to be read.. no go! It
will not read that one.. even from 2 different XP disks!

if anyone has any ideas, I guess I will send the disks back and get another
one...

Thanks in advance, Bummed!

The latest drivers on the ATI Website are the Catalyst 5.12 drivers. and the
latest NVIDIA drivers are the 81.95 drivers. You should not be using
drivers from Windows update or an out of CD that came with your card.

WMCE 2005 requires a graphics card that supports DirectX 9.0.

Neither the GeforceFX 420 nor the ATI Radeon 9200SE are DirectX 9.0
graphics cards.

Try an Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 or better or an ATI Radeon 9600 or better.
