- Posted by Adnanius on November 29th, 2005
Hi
I have a problem launching Windows Media Center , it seems to start ( i can
here some internal voices ) , but the screen is black . after this i disabled
Direct3D Acceleration , and now get an error message ''Your video card or
drivers are not compatible with Media Center'' , and after i close this error
, media center starts normally and the screen is normal , i can see pictures
and play music , but when i try to run any video file i get the famous video
error '' Files needed to display video are not installed or not working
correctly. Please restart Media Center and \or restart the computer'' and for
sure restarting dont make any difference .
Do anyone have a solution to my problem ???

Do you want to tell us about your system?
Pre-built or home made?
Tuner & video card (are they compatible with MCE)?
Is a compatible DVD decoder loaded (which)?
etc.

The error also can apply to your TV tuner/video capture card/drivers and in
some scenerios to the DVD Decoder software.
Check your Decoder with the MS utility.

I have a similar problem with an HPz545, however it appears to be a problem
with "eshell.exe"
Symptoms;
initially you can open MCE2005 and brows and all of that, but when you close
out of MCE2005 application, the video screen remains. the cursor moves with
the mouse.
and you can VNC to the machine and see the desktop, however the monitor
output will continue to display what apears to be MCE closing. Untill you
kill the eshell.exe
this will release the monitor, however if you attempt view data on the MCE
such as pictures, they do not display.
Any one have any clues?

Also download the latest NVIDIA XP drivers release 81.95 they support older
cards and MCE / MCE RU2.

Check here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/m...erlisting.mspx
If it isn't on the list, you have to keep your fingers crossed to get it to
work in MCE. Some video cards not on the list will work with updated driver,
however a "cheap" tuner card will probably never work. Also, TV will not
work with out a compatible DVD decoder.
