Vista media center does not play cable?
Posted by Q. on January 30th, 2008

Hello all,

I've got a new computer to replace an old media center xp, the new one is
vista with media center also. the problem is that when I hooked up the new
computer and set-up media center with cable it only plays two channels. The
rest of the channels are static.
I ask the guy I best buy, (bought the computer from them) said I need a
cable box. Now if I hook up the old computer to the same cable works fine,
plug in new computer two channels.
Any help?

Thanks Q.

You certainly don' need a cable box to receive the standard analog cable
channels like you were before.
Are you using a splitter? If yes try by passing it or switching the line
connected to your new computer with another port since some splitters filter
the frequencies on some ports.
Which 2 channels are your getting?

The two channels that I get are the TV giuld, and one above that not sure the
name of that one. Could these two channels are digital and the rest analog?
Vista ask in set up if the cable is analog. I'll try the direct cable
connect to the computer.

Thanks Q.

Does the tuner card in your new computer have one or two antenna connections
If two then one is for a standard antenna or analog cable connection and the
other is for a digital (ATSC) connection from an antenna. In any case if
the card has two connections try the other one from the one you are
currently connected to.
