- Vista Media Center Guide Listings
- Posted by Jon on December 26th, 2007
Hello,
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and having an issue with the
Guide
Listings. It seems to download a huge (15GB) cab file into my recorded
TV
folder every few days. I have not found anywhere where I can disble
the guide
listings. This article:
http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Win...a1033.mspx#ESB
mentions a setting for "Automatic Download Options", but I do not have
that
option listed in the menu.
It also does not download the guide regualrly... only every few days,
seemingly randomly.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks and happy holidays!

Are you absolutely certain that its the Guide download that's doing it?
Guide information is downloaded to:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\EPG
By default, not to your Recorded TV folder.

Thank you for the reply. That is a good question, as I am not sure it
is the EPG. It seems to be a TV guide listing which comes from channel
2 on my cable provider. The full file is:
C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\Cable System
Information_CABSYS_21_12_2007_20_58_09.dvr-ms
C:\Users\Public\Recorded TV\Cable System
Information_CABSYS_24_12_2007_05_58_09.dvr-ms
etc.
It seems to be trying to record a channel with the TV guide listings
for 3 hours at a time, creating the 15GB file.
I have removed all channels from the TV settings in Vista MEdia
Center, and it has not recordeed it in a few days. However, it might
do so again, and and it would be great to see where this setup is to
turn it on or off in the future.
Thanks again!

It seems that you have a Series Recording set up to record that channel. Go
to Recorded TV, Scheduled and see what is scheduled. Those files are in
fact Recorded TV files, so something is set to do a scheduled recording of
that channel.
