Watch and Record TV using WMC 2005
Posted by JP on November 28th, 2005

Hi,
I have a computer that I built (P4 3Ghz, 2GB RAM and ATI X700 Video Card)
and I am planning to install the WMC 2005 on it and also, I have just ordered
a Dell 32" LCD with HD Tuner built in. Not only that I am getting the HD
Converter box from Cox Cable for the HD signal.

I know that I can connect the HD box directly to the Dell LCD and watch
tv but my question is what kind of hardware will I need to watch TV using the
WMC 2005 and I want use the TV signal from the HD Converter box.

Thanks in advance.

You need a TV card to watch tv, But you can not recorded HD TV from a cable
box,
you can only recorded HDTV off air not from sat or cable.

Will I be able to change channels using the WMC Remote Control? or Do I need
to use the TV Tuner's Remote?

Is there there anybody using a configurations as I am doing ? If so, Please
give me some feedback on it.

MS remote and receiver can change the channels, using IR from MS receiver to
your cable box IR. Here is a link of the remote and receiver
at

When I said "you can not record HD TV from a cable" you can record and
watch HD BUT it will SD NOT HD.

Go to www.thegreenbutton.com and check out a thread on firewire connection
to your cable box. This allows you to record and playback true HD from your
cable box through the firewire port. Changes channels too so you won't need
the IR blasters. It works very well.

Good luck,
Jeff Kingsley
