Window not visible when minimized
Posted by IndyNavy on January 22nd, 2006

When you minimize the window, it closes as it would if it was being minimized
to the taskbar, but never appears. If you open the task manager, the program
is there but not visible other wise. This problem is only on one profile out
of four on computer. the quicklaunch is visible, but the 'divide' lines to
the right of the quicklaunch items are not there either. Has anyone ever
come across this - and how to resolve!?

I have what may be a similar problem. Our MCE 2005 system has three user
profiles. On one of the profiles, any application that is minimized
"disappears" to the bottom left hand of the screen. It looks like the
minimized window gets sucked into the Start button. The only way to recover
the minimized window(s) is to use Alt+Tab or the Switch To feature in the
Task Manager. If Switch To is used then the window with the current focus
gets sent to the Start Button and disappears.

I've been using WFW, Windows 9x, Me, NT, XP, W2K and W2K3 Server over the
years and have never seen this.
This is frustrating problem ('specially since it is affecting my wife's
profile) and I've yet to find an specific instance in my searches for
someone who is having this problem with any mimized app, not just with IE.
Any thoughts or tips would be most appreciated.

I had a similar problem when using my TV as both a TV and a monitor. If
I set the output configuration tow two split monitors the windows would
minimize to the wrong monitor. Which, by the way, didn't always give a
readable picture :-(

I had to stay with cloned monitors. Then the window would minimize to
both taskbars, although the one on the TV style output was mostly
invisible due to over scan.

I don't know if this is your problem...

The problem I had appears to have been fixed. I ran the script listed in
line 240 at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
I only ran the script while logged on as the aflicted profile.
Now all of the programs that are minimized correctly go to the task bar
instead of disappearing behind the start bar, etc.

Thanks so much for your assistance! I ended up reloading the software, but I
will keep your suggestion for the future - if this happens again. Since I
have heard of others having the same issue.

I tried the link and it is not valid. Suggestion?

It appears that direct link is not working right now even though the same
address is valid when going throught the following steps:

1. Try going to: http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp.htm
2. Then click on the "tweaks" link on the left hand side of page under
"t-shooting"
3. That should get you to the page that contains the script...
4. just do a find for "240" and that should take you right to the link to
download the script.
5. Or you could click on the "category" view...that one appears to be more
practical if you don't know exactly what you're looking for or how to phrase
it.

There are some other cool tips and fixes on this site. Hope this helps.
