- Windows Media Center Edition 2005 cannot control the volume for digital output.

Windows Media Center Edition 2005 cannot control the volume for
digital output.
You cannot control the volume to external devices that are playing
digital audio in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

Can't believe this.
Is there a third party work around?
Must I reach for the physical volume control on my speaker?

....but you can train the MCE remote to do that.

Or you can go with the last remote you'll ever need... the Logitech Harmony
remote line. My Harmony 680 replaces all remotes in my house.

is that a bug or by design? If it is a bug perhaps it will be fixed in the
upcoming roll-up 2. (Which should be released by the next patch Tuesday)

The bitstream is the bitstream. It's digital. It is supposed to be
passed to your AV amp unaltered. I found it hugely irritating until I
found the simple solution - just program the buttons on the remote to
adjust the volume on the amp instead of on the MCE PC. Problem solved!
Instructions for programming the remote are here....

Please notice that the MC has this problem and not windows XP. For my case I
can control the volume of digital output, using audio controls inside
Windows XP, but when I use the green button to enter the Media Center then
the MC remote does not work.
My problem with setting up the MCE remote to learn the audio control, is
that my audio system is BOSE, and BOSE uses radio signals for the remote.
This way you can use their remote to control all BOSE devices inside the
house, but unfortunately other remotes does not use the same type of signals.

Any chance you can post the directions? I have an HP z556, with the HP
remote. I presume I need some software to program the remote for it, but I do
not know what.
