Windows Mobile 2003 vs. Windows Mobile 5.0
Posted by GQ on October 17th, 2005

Hi everyone,

First of all, I know this post has NOTHING to do with Windows XP MCE, I just
could not find a message board pertaining to my question. At any rate, maybe
someone could help me anyway. I have a Pocket PC Phone, the HP iPAQ H6325,
which has Windows Mobile 2003. On the Microsoft website, they have now
released Windows Mobile 5.0, which I'm assuming is the more recent version.
Would anyone know the differences between the two operating systems, whether
an upgrade is possible on my device (HP iPAQ H6325), and where would I
purchase the upgrade?

Again, I know this is not the correct message board, but I appreciate any
answers

Thanks,

You're looking for the microsoft.public.pocketpc newsgroup.

Windows Mobile 5 is indeed a new version (comes after Windows Mobile 2003
Second Edition).
The update is up to the manufacturer, in your case only HP can say if it's
technically possible to use the newer version on that device (several
architecture differences means it's not always possible on current
hardware), and if they are willing to provide an upgrade path to their
customers (as the system needs to be customized for their hardware).

Reading HP press release about Windows Mobile 5 upgrades, it seems your
device cannot be upgraded:

.... but contacting HP would be the best way to be sure.

Please join the pocketpc newsgroup for any further Pocket PC related
questions.
